Competition, Growth & Teamwork
Since joining Indian Mountain School, athletics have become an important part of my boarding school experience.
Through alpine ski racing, soccer, and lacrosse, I have challenged myself in both familiar and completely new environments, while learning how to adapt, contribute to a team, and grow through competition.
ALPINE SKI
My first season racing in the U.S. challenged me in ways I had not experienced before. I began skiing for fun when I was five and became interested in ski racing in fourth grade, but most of my previous racing experience had been on shorter courses and in more familiar snow and slope conditions.Racing in the U.S. introduced me to longer and more difficult courses, changing snow conditions, and much greater variations in terrain and gradient. At first, adjusting to these differences was challenging, but throughout the season I learned to adapt my skiing and become more comfortable competing in unfamiliar conditions. It gave me a much broader understanding of ski racing and made my first U.S. season especially meaningful.

Representing Korea
Competing in the U14 Whistler Cup as a representative of Korea was one of the most meaningful experiences of my ski season. I raced on courses that were longer and more challenging than anything I had experienced before and competed alongside talented young racers from around the world.
I especially enjoyed watching and competing against strong racers from the U.S. and Canada. Being surrounded by athletes who shared the same passion for ski racing pushed me to challenge myself at a new level, and I was proud to have the opportunity to represent Korea.
SOCCER
IMS Varsity Soccer — 8th Grade
New England Tournament Champions — 1st Place
Joining the IMS Varsity Soccer Team as an 8th grader was especially meaningful because it helped me feel part of the school community almost immediately. As a new student adjusting to boarding school, being part of the team gave me a strong sense of belonging and helped me build relationships with my teammates. Winning the New England Tournament together made my first season at IMS even more memorable.

Starting Goalie in Nearly Every Game
New England Tournament — 3rd Place
Before coming to IMS, I had never played lacrosse. I started the season holding a lacrosse stick for the first time and eventually earned a position as a varsity goalie, starting in nearly every game.
Goalie was much more physically and mentally challenging than I expected. Early practices often left me bruised and sore as I adjusted to having lacrosse balls coming at me from every direction. Instead of letting that discourage me, I kept practicing, learning, and becoming more confident in the position.
By the end of the season, I was able to contribute to our team's victory in the third-place game at the New England Tournament. Going from having no experience in the sport to contributing as a varsity goalie gave me a strong sense of accomplishment and taught me a great deal about resilience.
